Why do I need to replace my timing belt?

If your timing belt needs replacing, take action immediately. Failure to replace your timing belt when damaged or at the indicated service interval can seriously damage your engine. A timing belt failure could lead to piston & valve damage – a very expensive and potentially uneconomical problem to repair!

How do I know if my timing belt needs replacing?

Your timing belt should be replaced at the interval specified by your manufacturer, but due to vehicle usage and the conditions in which it is driven, the belt may need to be replaced earlier. If you are experiencing any of the following, you have a potential timing belt wear.

• Ticking noise from the engine
• Increased engine temperature or overheating
• Increase in fuel usage
• Engine won’t turn over

• Oil leak from front of engine

When we replace your ctiming belt, we will also replace your water-pump & belt tensioners. Why? Adding a new timing belt can put increased pressure on the tensioners & water pump causing them to break. Also, if the previous timing belt had become worn, loose or damaged, it could have damaged these parts too. So really, it’s a no brainer to replace these relatively inexpensive parts at the same time to ensure you do not end up with another costly repair bill after replacing your timing belt. If you get other quotes for replacing your worn or damaged timing belt, make sure that the price of replacing the water pump and tensioners is included.

Note: not all cars have a water pump that is driven by the timing belt. Contact us and we’ll be able to advise you if you need to replace the water pump at the time of replacing your cambelt.
